Description & Cultural Context
Roman glass beads were prized for their vivid colouring and the technical mastery required to produce them. The darker bead shows natural surface weathering and patina typical of ancient burial, while the warm-toned agate bead exhibits elegant banding—symbolic in antiquity of protection and good fortune.
Such bead combinations were used in antiquity for personal adornment, status display, and sometimes apotropaic (protective) purposes. This modern presentation allows the ancient pieces to be worn today as a distinctive pendant.
