A beautiful Ancient Roman carnelian bead necklace comprising a collection of patinated disc beads in varying shades of reddish-orange, amber and earthy brown, arranged around a larger central stone bead.

The individually shaped beads display natural variations in size, colour and surface texture, reflecting traditional ancient bead-making techniques. Small glass spacer beads separate the larger elements, creating an elegant composition that combines ancient craftsmanship with modern wearability.

Carnelian was particularly prized throughout the Roman world, where it was extensively used in jewellery, engraved gemstones, amulets and personal adornments. Its rich reddish colour was associated with vitality, protection and prosperity, making it a popular choice for necklaces, rings and decorative ornaments.
